Chasing The Sun - Chapter 2 - Teaser
61This is a small part of Chapter 2 in my novel that I am writing Chasing The Sun. All text is property of the owner Samantha Stigwood, hubpages author name sammyfiction.
“Wait!” I called after him. He slowed, but didn’t stop. “Can I at least know your name?” I said not very loud, I couldn’t really hear myself. It seemed as though he didn’t hear, as he continued walking away, until he turned into the shadows and I could no longer see him anymore. The tattoo on my wrist tingled, a sensation that I hadn’t felt since I last was near a Western Night Lord. And that was many, many years ago. All of a sudden flashes of pictures or memories came across my eyes, like a slideshow. All of me, places I had been as a spirit, and somehow I knew that these were of his views and memories. And I knew his name, Callum. And ordinary human name, with extraordinary attachment. We were attached somehow. The tattoo proved it.
The sun tickled the neck of my back in reassuring strokes of heat, noticing my unease. I rested my head back and looked up at the sky and sighed. Callum was only going to complicate my life. A Western Night Human Spy. Fantastic. And why all of a sudden has he outed himself to me? It also doesn’t help that my closest friend is Northern Night Royalty. Double fantastic.
I looked back down at the poem still in my hand. Callum's handwriting completely contrasted the writing on the other side. Though he never signed it, or ever mentioned it was from him, the words and romanticism of it all reeked of Vespera. Maybe it wasn’t his, maybe I was just a naïve young light spirit without a single clue about this world I have come to live in? I liked to believe in the former, where Vespera felt more than he was allowed to. I flipped the piece of paper and read the poem again.
Like the right spring, you smell of change
Like a reminder of snow melting in the summer rain.
Whispers in the wind, call me to your wake
The sight of your beauty, you seal my fate.
A double edged sword, keeps us apart
Please know this my dear, you stay in my heart.
Fight for the love you know we deserve
Stick to the truth, put your soul in your words.
Rivalries will taint,
The high will fall,
I will be on your side always,
Nothing more matters, not at all.
Clutching the poem yet again, I walked in the direction that Callum had disappeared into. Surely he couldn’t have gotten that far.
